African museum collections

Maaike Westra, African Studies Centre Leiden, compiled collection items from, mainly, museums and galleries in 52 out of the 54 countries on the African continent. She found out finding good photos was not easy. Unsurprisingly, most searches resulted in excellent photos of African artefacts in museums everywhere on the globe, except Africa.

While searching it became clear that many African countries have a range of (small) galleries for contemporary art, where talented African artists have the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work.

The last two pages show a small collection of African street art.
